Abdominal Wall and Hernia Basics
Course Information

Target Users

Newly hired sales representatives who may or may not have previous exposure to the medical industry.

Course Goals

• Users will build a mental model of the anatomy of the abdominal wall so that they can understand more advanced hernia repair concepts later in their training
• Users will understand where and why incisional, umbilical, indirect inguinal, direct inguinal, and femoral hernias occur

Development Tools

I developed this course using Adobe Flash CS4 and ActionScript 3.

Details & Screenshots

While on the surface much of this course is an audio narrated presentation, I added a dose of meaningful interaction by requiring users to locate and click anatomical structures to advance the course.

Since this was some users’ first exposure to the material, I also wanted to make sure that they were absorbing key points throughout the course, rather than waiting until then end. I added review exercises throughout the course that focused on the key take-away points.

If users correctly completed the exercises, they could continue the course.

If users continued to struggle with an activity, they would be prompted to either review the relevant section from earlier in the course or try the exercise again.
